The laser won’t reset to zero when turned on
Reset to zero? In what way?
the laser is all the back when I turn it on. It keeps making a rub/grind noise as it tries to push back further. It repeats the process about every 10 seconds.
Turn it off, carefully pull the gantry forward and slide the head under the camera. Turn it back on and see if that helps.

That can happen if the lid camera image can be interpreted so that the unit thinks the laser head is in a different place than it actually is. Quite often it’s a dark cutout in a piece of plywood that resembles the laser head in size. Removing the offending material often works. Moving the head under the lid camera for a closer view prior to powerup serves the same purpose.
