Marquetry

I’ve been obsessed with marquetry lately, and recently found this fabulous book by Silas Kopf. He’s a marquetry master with a fabulous sense of visual humor. I found this book crazy inspiring: http://www.amazon.com/Marquetry-Odyssey-Historical-Objects-Personal/dp/1555952879/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1450338813&sr=8-12&keywords=marquetry+book

This is one of his classic pieces. Note that this is handcut wood.

This one kills me, too.

It’s an almost lost art. I went to a marquetry group meeting once , about 9 years ago. I was in my late 20s and everyone else was 55 plus.

The coolest guy was an ex heart surgeon. I think 70 plus. His work was exquisite and highly detailed. You could see the hand training. Did it in front of the TV at night.

I’m excited ed to see if I can do fading and darkening with low power settings .
