I have non-working Photon M3 Max that I don’t have time or ability to troubleshoot. I was going to offer it to you so you could have the extra build plate and FEP sheets, but sounds like you have the M3 and not the M3 Max.

We have a Bambu X1C but I’ve never used it, only my husband. I wanted to start using it. But he said there was some issue that he couldn’t figure out how to fix. So I have to try to figure it out.

I have an X1-C and H2S, so I’m familiar with Bambu printers and a variety of issues. Let me know if you need help troubleshooting.

@pubultrastar Thanks! I may need to take you up on that. He said he had checked in their forum and couldn’t find any answers. I’m messaging him to see what the problem was. We have one AMS but what I might do if he doesn’t have time to explain (while he’s at work) is just load the spool on the back and rule out the AMS as the problem and try to go from there. Maybe open a new filament as well, to rule out any issues with that, and try to see if I can get anything working. The main problem for me is that he put a smaller nozzle on and I would like to avoid having to swap that out to troubleshoot this today. (If I can’t avoid that, I may not have time to go teach myself how to do that on top of the rest. I am trying to take care of a bunch of things today that I couldn’t take care of during the holidays.)

Bypassing the AMS is a good starting point.

Although I’m a mechanical engineer and software developer, I use Tinkercad to design assemblies for the Glowforge as well as for my 3D printer.

Here’s what he said is happening (copied from his Google chat messages):

The ptfe tube here moves when printing. I believe that’s the problem. I can’t find anything that is supposed to hold it in place while the filament gets pulled through it.

Here’s the video where they show how to replace the ptfe:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzrpJi5bKtc&t=1s

YouTube video

And it’s not that clip with the blue thing on it that holds it in place.

If you watch the video you can see them just pull the tube out of the part that goes to the back of the printer. And when they replace the tube they just slide that clip up. Nothing seems to lock it in place.

When you print the whole tube slides along the path that the filament takes. And I don’t think the filament is getting pulled into the extruder which is why it won’t spit out any filament when printing.

There are multiple ptfe tubes. One from the AMS. one from the external spool. Maybe another going from the splitter/hub to the back of the machine. And inside, the one going to the print head/extruder. Can you send a picture of the one you’re referring to. Also, is the a ptfe splitter, or are you using a hub?

From him:

the tube going to the print head/extruder.

He said it wasn’t extruding (tried different filaments. Tried drying them. Tried a different nozzle)

(Bypassed using AMS because it was getting jammed but couldn’t figure out what was happening with it, so that’s ruled out.)

MY response:

The machine gave me some message about needing to change the nozzle or something like that. I’ll try to do that later today or another day (not sure if I can do that today).

Yeah, I have the regular M3, not the Max. Thank you for thinking of me, though!

If much else significant goes wrong with the M3, I am likely to replace the printer.

If there is a filament jam in the nozzle, as it tries to extrude through that and it gets stuck, that may be why the PFT e tube is moving out. Out. There are definitely ways to troubleshoot and get rid of a clogged nozzle, and I could help you through that. However, if you have a spare nozzle to swap out. That would at least verify if you have a clog or not in the current nozzle. I would try swapping first and then let us know how that goes

If what @pubultrastar mentioned doesn’t work, when you change the nozzle you need to tell the machine which nozzle is installed. You get there on the panel, under accessories you should find nozzle and make sure the machine knows which nozzle is installed. You’ll update in the slider later too.

Ok I changed to a (new?) hotend / nozzle (0.6). I updated that info on the machine. I opened a new filament (bambu pla basic, pink, which is easy to see in the tube, an extra bonus) and updated that in the app on my phone. I bypassed the AMS and placed it on the spool holder in back. Inserted the filament through the tube in the back (after fighting with the coupler and not knowing I just had to press it in, ugh). Fed it in until it stopped. Told it to load the filament.

Edited to Update:I forgot to include the message lol

Now I’m stuck. I have retried several times. I unloaded the filament and started over and repeated the process and still at the same point.

It’s probably a blockage or problem with the gears.

Side note probably relevant: when I swapped the nozzle, there was a piece of filament sticking out. I tried to remove it. I don’t think I got it all. I’m guessing this is the problem? But I don’t know, this might be a secondary problem.

How do I proceed?

Thank you in advance to both @pubultrastar @hansepe and anyone else willing to help me troubleshoot and get this fixed. And those gridfinity bins!

This does not look fun to me. (Maybe if I didn’t have so much else on my plate I’d be less resistive? lol)

Sometimes when loading a new nozzle, I have to tell it nothing came out a few times before the new filament actually starts extruding. It is actually annoying how many times you have to tell it to retry…

@cynd11 - now THAT’s the way to have a shoe collection! Look how much space you save having such small shoes! And I love tiny things. I really like the lightswitch decor as well. I thought they were for door jambs, never would have thought to make something like that for light switches.

@dwardio, @pubultrastar, @bill.m.davis - love all those! Not only useful, but life-changing as well. So cool!

@trually I am around all day if you want to jump on a call or video chat to help troubleshoot.

@pubultrastar I was swamped today between trying to get my daughter’s medicaid waiver benefits fixed (ugh) and it being my husband’s birthday! (Whew, mostly got things worked through.) What does the rest of the week look like for you? Tomorrow in the afternoon I’m doing kid medical stuff but I think I’m mostly available the rest of the week.

I sculpted this guy in Nomad sculpt and 3d printed it on a Bambulab X1C. Painted the red version.
