If you dress up it’s a spiffy jiffy biffy.
I’d never heard of that name, either. I thought it was just a cute little name that you made up.
I’ve heard the term used to refer to any kind of bathroom in the woods (latrine, outhouse, pit toilet, even a flush toilet at a camp). In fact, someone once told me that biffy stands for “bathroom in the forest for you.”
Etymologists can’t seem to agree. The most believable one I’ve seen is that it’s based on “privy” or “bivvy”, which is short for bivouac.
Yeah, I’ve always suspected that someone came up with “bathroom in the forest for you” after the fact.
Yeah but since nobody knows for sure I think I now like your explanation best
Cool to learn new stuff, a new camping term for a toilet isn’t something I would have guessed was still out there to discover!
I like this description best.
this is how maybe half of our architectural design explanations go. sometimes we have a theme and it works. sometimes the design goes another direction and we like it, so we find a new reason that we did something different. sometimes we just like the design and come up with a good idea about why we like it afterward.
I learned about it from my dad; he spent most of his childhood in Michigan.
There is no such thing–a jiffy biffy visit, doncha know. Have you ever peeled off your flight suit just to ‘go’? Mind you don’t step on the sleeves, or worse!
