if i had more time to plan, i would have gone to home depot for a small dowel (or stolen one from work, our model shop has a pile). but with working from home and being a good citizen, i just used toothpicks. not quite as stable, since they vary in width. but they work.

you could laser a massive pile of 1/8" x whatever rectangular dowels
