Gosh, that is so elegant! Just had an idea: what if you made each tile a tiny lithophane out of white acrylic? Heh heh—might take a little while…

Great idea. Onto the long list of things to try!

He designs them himself and if you hunt around in his other posts he (used to?) sell some. I’m sure he’ll be around to clarify sometime soon but until then this will give you something to look for.
Update - Aha, found it:
Well, the internal connectors are 3D printed and attached with screws. The are ways to do this with laser printed connectors as well. I got started by getting the base platonic solids from Thingiverse:
I then started designing my own using Fusion 360 for more complex polyhedrals. Here is a link to a workshop I did explaining my process:
I have a link to a free connector for a icosadodeahedron here:
I used to get the dihedral angles and necessary infor mation for the polyhedrals I wan…

I started out by finding the connectors for the regular Platonic solids on Thingiverse. I then learned Fusion360 and started designing more complex polyhedrals. I do sell connectors for many of my shapes, but this one is fairly complex and may not post it.

Here are more polyhedrals that don’t need 3d printed connectors.
svg files for triangles, squares, pentagons, and hexagons. They assume 11.5 inch x 8.5 inch surface, with 72.0 ppi. The hinges by which the pieces fit together are sized for 3/16 inch 2-sided corrugated cardboard pads.
2plex = 2 dimensional...

And here’s a laser-only technique from @geek2nurse :
This file contains patterns for the base part (black outline) and connector (red outline) for six types of polyhedron, sized for use with medium PG plywood/draftboard.
[Polyhedra]
They all have sides measuring 2.5" with matching connector spacing, but of course to combine different shapes you’ll need to come up with the proper dihedral angles, as the included connectors won’t work for that.
As always, show me what you make!

Bravo! Very unworldly looking… reminds me of my days long ago playing Myst, perhaps there is a puzzle clue somewhere there?
