The aluminum was ok but it ended up causing some melting. You can’t tell much difference unless you look for it but it’s there.

Huh, that’s odd. Aluminum isn’t a heat conductor. Maybe the flashback was hot enough in that spot to melt the acrylic? All the foil does is block the charring, but it won’t help with the heat.
Doesn’t water pretty much kill the adhesion factor of most transfer tape/medium tack tape? It’s acrylic. Water isn’t going to hurt it.
