Makin' some apple cubes

Today was pickin’ day. Overall it was a good first attempt, but the boxes were probably on the large side. The best one was 2.25" cubed interior; next year we’ll try again and drop it down to 2" to see if we can get a little more cubic fill. Text embossed nicely. One of the boxes cracked, and it was a real pain to remove the closure pins due to the pressure!

Wonderful results! The embossing is great!

So fun. Looks like 2" might be the trick next year!

Excellent experiment!

I’m sure next year will be better based on this year.

Fantastic! (And I didn’t realize you had embossing in there.)

I’m cheering the apple on for cracking that acrylic housing. That’s impressive!

Those came out awesome. I made one to try on my neighbors tree, but the box seemed way to big and never got around to making a smaller one…

What kind of apples are those?

Because if you happen to use McIntosh apples you might end up with something like this:

Years ago, i saw an old picture of a farmer who had grown pumpkins in a mold that looked like a human head, with pretty great results. I recently saw an article about a guy in california who is revisiting the idea with Frankenstein-shaped ones, and they turned out fantastic.

Next year, square Halloween apples! Love the embossing… I’ve never seen that before.

where can i find the SVG file?? I don’t have fusion

Right click on the drawing in the first post.

On Windows Chrome or Firefox, right click and save as - then the default file type is .svg
On Windows Edge or IE, install Chrome or Firefox (Edge and IE will only get you a .png, which you can use, but you’ll have to trace and fix which is way more of a pain than installing a new browser)

Got it, But NO clips??

Here’s the original file for the clips  You should print some in wood too and use them to hold down material in your GF bed. They’re the best!

I found that the 2.5" box I originally provided the SVG for was a bit too large for most apples I tried it on. For folks that don’t have Fusion 360 (it’s free for hobbyists, so you should get it!) I’ve created a new SVG for a 2" box and included it in the first post above. This will probably work better for most people.

@ryan_haskell did you try these again this year? Was hoping to see some pics!

I did not. Time got away from me! I do want to do it again though, so check back here in a year
