Name plate on Bobinga Wood

Got back into the laser game this past weekend. Unfortunately I didn’t get another Glowforge, but I’m finding the pros of this new laser is hard to ignore.

This is Bobinga Wood, Janka Scale of hardness rates it at 2500 lbs. It took 5 minutes to fully engrave and cut this 1/4th name plate, as if it was butter.

I did some light sanding and put a coat of polyurethane on it before taking it into work. It’s good to be back

So, what new laser did you get?

Interesting fight-

What is really interesting is that Poisonwood is a very nasty wood (Think poison ivy on steroids). However, dried completely it is sold as Carribean Rosewood. It is a pioneer species (first to show up in a clearing) but it would take a long time to get big enough for lumber and be really nasty to cut.

Ooh nice. Had to spread your wings, I get it!

I ended up getting an xTool P2S, mainly because of the ability to natively do curved/rounded edges as well as native passthrough

Small world, I worked for CACI a little while after they bought out the 200 person company I WAS working for! Many moons ago.

Good to see you back engraving! Can’t wait to see what you can do with any curved/rounded edges.
