Pinewood Derby Car

Had to slice up two blocks to produce enough material to re-composite to the required car width. In retrospect, some of the layers could have been 1/4” or 1/2” thick, but I had already cut it all into 1/8” slices and figured out the settings for laser cutting to that depth in pine. I cut other 1/8” thick scrap materials for bed placement trial and error.

I was thinking that next time it would be fun to try a vertically stacked design vs. a laterally stacked one, or start with a solid car base and build a slot -assembly , thin walled body on top.

I built a car last year as a part of our adult group. Instead of cutting up the block and lasering it though, I hollowed it out and added an external expansion of glued layers, then shaped that with a Dremel. Final result was fully in spec, but I spent waaaaaaaay too much time on it, of course.

And, like usual, also forgot to take in-progress photos.

Brings back a lot of memories. Built a track for our pack and built an automatic winner indicator.

This is amazing. You don’t happen to have the SVG files, do you?

Welcome to the forum.

This is a gentle reminder that it is against forum. rules to ask for files.

@robertharris welcome to the forum, you will find that this is a valuable community where like minded people share mainly ideas and experiences.
However, just so you know, when an OP decides to share his files, it is usually posted on the “Free Laser Designs” section or will add his Etsy store link to his profile so you can check if he is selling it.
