Yeah, I just saw (over the last couple of days) your (?) post about using 400 grit sandpaper to remove the old engrave. I was thinking that coupling it with a wipe of mineral oil to darken the slate and then another engrave (to get nice highlighted engraves) I could reuse my mistakes until I got it right.
So using masking and trying to use gold leaf.
1st, the laser only cut the masking so I didn’t get any etch on the slate.
2nd, trying to do gold leaf through a design in masking tape royally sucks and is difficult.
So in conclusion, just etch slate as normal and use gold leaf the way it’s meant to. If you need gold in an etching use paint and save yourself the trouble.
Those are the regular tile coasters in the background. Much easier to make gold.
