But not so much for an inlay :slightly_smiling_face: I wonder if it would harden if heated carefully to 1k F

Great project! Saved the game for your dad and made a beautiful set in the process.

Really lovely set, and the inlay is of course pretty amazing. I love the beautifully finished box too.

99% of the secret is sanding. And then more sanding.

I didn’t even use fancy finishes since it’s going to get handled a lot.

What is the highest grit you use? do you use power drive?

Depends on the project. On stuff where I’m reeeally pushing the shine I go up to 12000 with micropads. On this, not nearly that far.

Drum sander for the tiles up to 220 then to 1500 with orbital. All orbital for the boxes, up to 400. The box and tiles then also got an extra double shine on sequential buffing wheels.

Indeed the beautifully-finished box edges were the very first thing to catch my eye. Nice craftsmanship! Did you do anything to fill the gaps usually left in the box joints by the angled sides of the kerf?

Not really. I tend to design the box so the minimally kerfed sides are out, with a tight fit, which minimizes them pretty effectively.
