Is it safe to assume that acrylic gesso primer is safe to cut/engrave with the glowforge?

In this case yes. For any material, It’s always good to do a quick search for “material name msds” which will give you the Material Safety Data Sheet. It looks complicated but basically just take a look at the section on what happens when it burns:

If you start seeing things like “hydrogen chloride and other toxic fumes generated with combustion” then avoid using it in the laser.
