Love that first one in your link…it would be beautiful.
Good options, for sure. Thanks!
It is beautiful! You need to post it!!!
Beautiful work! The details, the design, its gorgeous. It reminded me of the Sleepy Hollow church from Tim Burtons movie, and was hoping you added the file to the catalogue! If you do let us know
Wow! Looks great!
I think it’s lovely. And designing is hard.
Yes, designing is hard…but fun, too! And this design is really very nice.
Yeah, I think designing things for a lot of us is like golf to a lot of the rest of the people. I’ll cuse and have to walk away but when I get what I was looking for there’s nothing more rewarding! I envy people who can put together such visually pleasing things as this.
Don’t envy too much, Mark…this kind of thing for me is seldom the case.
Amen! Fantastic work. I am sure it feels good to see it done and so great looking!
The steeple came out really well, the way the finger joints appear to be part of the design:
And I really like the roof shingles. Did you score the outlines then paint over it?
(And it goes without saying that the windows are lovely!)
Thank you. Yes…I hand drew the shingles to give them a more rustic look and scored before spray painting. I used the high quality setting, so it took forever…as does the weeding afterward. It was suggested that I paint first, then score to reduce the amount of weeding…but, I wasn’t confident enough in my alignment skills.
Not really sure what you’re meaning by this?
I was trying to find the image I know is out there (and posted before). I have several. Any of which can be engraved across the entire roof to make all the shingles, and since there is no unengraved part there is no need for masking, and therefore no need for weeding.
It is much easier to remove the masking before you engrave (as one piece) than after.
Well, this I know…and it was suggested above somewhere, too. If I submit to the catalog, I will be suggesting that as an alternative method to the way I’m doing it. Seems like engraving the entire roof would take even longer than scoring it…but maybe I still don’t understand.
I didn’t want to take the masking off, paint it, then have to try to align my hand drawn shingles after the fact. Especially when the paint is almost black and the pieces would be on the black crumb tray.
PLUS…all these pieces fit exactly onto one piece of material (draftboard), so to do it any other way I’d have to do the roof pieces completely separately.
Oh, what a gorgeous building! Love all the details—finger joints, stained glass, roof tiles. I think there are plenty of complex projects in the catalog; I wouldn’t limit myself based on that consideration (although writing it up would certainly give me pause). Good luck!
As far as lights, you might want to consider something like these fairy lights I use for my fireplace mantle buildings. The advantage is that you can tape the copper wire around the inside of the building so you can get the lights exactly where you want them, and also these come with a remote control to turn them on and off. They come in shorter lengths and also either battery or plugin.

Thank you so much!..and thank you too for the link. I’m going to check it out.
I have decided I’m going to submit this design and have gotten a good start on the arduous assembly instructions. I’ve cut a second one and painted the parts, so now need to document the process. Slow and steady…blah, blah, blah.
I can’t wait for this to appear in the catalog!
Welcome to the community, we are glad to see you.
