Wooden Rings

I keep meaning to get me a silicone mat as they do great with hot glue as well.

I find it hard to work in gloves but I do keep CA softener within arm’s reach!

Good to know! I have boxes of nitrile gloves of gloves at a time (2 different sizes for me and my husband), 4 of my size and 5 of my husband’s size. We use them a lot on the farm, and of course when I’m painting my crafts, but I have also started using them a lot during cooking, just because I hate the way the waxy stuff they put on fruits and vegetables makes my hands feel, even after washing (and even though I try to get it without the wax coating), and it keeps food out of my rings when I’m making doughs, etc. Had no idea they could help when gluing, as I use CA glue a lot with my GF projects and have, on occasion , gotten it on my fingers as well. I do have silicone mats that I bought to test on my GF for various things, but never thought of using them for when I glue stuff. That tip alone would definitely have left my work table looking much nicer instead of having glue on it that I can’t get off! (She says, not realizing one time that she had knocked her bottle of CA glue over and it leaked on to the table.)

To clarify:

CA glue DOES stick to nitrile.

If you get enough CA on a nitrile glove, the heat from fast curing can destroy the glove and glue little bits of it to your fingers.

CA glue does NOT stick to polyethylene gloves. That’s these kind of things:

Nitrile gloves are great PPE, and I use them for all sorts of other things, including working with resin prints, keeping paint off my hands, keeping PVA glue off my hands, working with wipe-on poly, etc.

In addition to standard nitrile exam gloves, I also keep some heavy-duty ones around for certain types of things.

Not ring related but…

For food prep - they make cheap disposable gloves, I wear them when dicing peppers, for example, or applying rub or marinade to meats.

They also have a veggie wash that removes the waxy coating - it’s in the produce section at all the grocery stores here.

I am concerned that I might still be creating confusion. If you want gloves that CA glue won’t stick to, you need something like these:

The link in my previous post was for some heavy-duty nitrile gloves. CA will stick to those.

I remember those first prints 8 years ago and they just keep getting better. Happy 80th!

Oh, good to know! Thanks! I must’ve read it wrong.

@eflyguy - the problem I usually have with those cheap ones is that they just don’t fit well enough and slide around a lot, which can be dangerous if I’m doing a lot of knife cuts. They just feel awkward on me. Maybe it’s the size of my hands compared to the ones I’ve used. I’ll have to look for different sizes. Especially since nitrile gloves can be kinda pricey for the amount I buy.

I only use the cheap poly gloves when doing glue ups (of any kind) and they’re so cheap i don’t mind tossing them when they’re still “perfectly good” The loose fit isn’t a problem for that. Nitrile gloves are for when I want dexterity and durability because I’ll be wearing them for an hour or more.

Makes great sense. I’ll have to get me some for that! (“that” being using with CA glue!)
