I can get it to cut fine, but there is always so much charring that I quit using it.

heavy charring with 1/8" cherry? i could maybe believe that with 1/4", but i’ve cut a lot of 1/8" cherry hardwood with no cutting issues.
i just use PG medium cherry hardwood settings, which is literally 1/8" cherry.

I just use the proofgrade settings, i haven’t had any issues on either non proofgrade cherry plywood or hardwood.

You’re right. It’s 1/4" cherry I’m thinking of (and non-pg). And I did use the proofgrade setting.

Speed 210, power Max. I have a basic. Worked great, with very little charring. The bit there was wiped off with a little alcohol.
