sure can, just not 40wat co2, but lasers have been used in industry for decades, they are hugely more powerful then we the GF is

1000 w CO2 laser can cut .25" steel plate
4000W fiber laser can cut 1" steel plate.
We use them at work

damn. That definitely is a wear the laser glasses situation (although this seem more of the melted your head off kind of thing rather than quaint little holes in your retina)
