I volunteer at an event that makes a very kid-friendly Disney-inspired Halloween event out of my audio engineering professor’s (now family friend) front yard every year. We try to go with trends each year, to really engage the kids. I’ve been doing this for 30 years now, and it’s a huge labor of love for a 3 hour event!
With the Barbie movie being so popular, that was our overriding theme. We also have a graveyard, a pirate’s treasure trove, a photo op with Jack & Sally in front of a 20 foot moon, and the main event, talking to the Great Pumpkin (who talks back and has a short show) and his nephew Bob (my role). We added an homage to Ghostbusters this year at the door, since we’ve been using the theme song as our “jingle” for years
But I digress! For the Barbie parts of the event I made three signs, 7 pink pumpkin cutouts, two “my name is” props, and two 9 foot car flats with seating. There’s also 3 Nightmare Before Christmas style jack o’lantern cutouts for the Jack & Sally area.
I made the rainbow Barbieland and Real World signs out of MDF in layers, most of the rest was done with sheet cardboard from Paper Mart. (Which I now need to restock for holiday shipping LOL) I used a battery operated globe light string for the Real World sign that chase-flashed and looked fab in the dark. Also copious amounts of glitter were used in the making of these pieces!
