Unless they lacquered it in, a wipe with a terry rag damp with hand sanitizer would do it.

I’m a big fan of a bit of smoke residue - and in this case I think it adds quite a lot of “dimension” to it - adds a lot of 3D to the finished piece.

I’m currently working through designing one of those 50 year perpetual calendars. This one has some of those elements.
