Accuracy of cuts

I feel so frustrated. I waste so much material because of the inaccuracy of the focus. Any suggestions?

What were the results of you camera calibration process?

If this happens in spite of performing the lid camera calibration and using the set focus tool, support will have to address the issue. Are using set focus? Have you completed the lid camera calibration?

That looks like your material thickness was entered incorrectly…if you can do a full screenshot of the GFUI we might be able to help more

I’m having the same issues. Using Proofgrade Draft board. I cut and engraved one side of the coin now trying to engrave this on the back side. I manually changed it to medium draftboard since that is what the coin was cut from. I used set focus and what engraved was off from the camera.

See what I’m referring to here

@amandal.elmore you’re going to want to start your own post in P&S because staff can only respond to one person per ticket once they get here - and we can help in the meantime

When you do - I’d suggest doing the same that I suggested above - post a full view of your GFUI so we can see exactly what you’re seeing.

Welcome to the forum. As @deirdrebeth notes, you need to start your own thread with a post to Problems and Support. Also, have you completed the lid camera calibration?

Recommend opening a support ticket. I had a similar problem and after they had me run tests and submit the results, they concluded that the machine needed to be replaced.

Can you post some more examples of bad placement. Being off more than 1/4" is isn’t right. Being off after calibration is definitely off.

Here is a topic I started for one of my machines that was skewed.

Using dead flat material and the Set Focus tool, do this image. You can use cardboard as long as it is very flat. Use hold down pins if necessary. Post before and after shots without having opened the lid of the lid camera image.

I had a similar problem. Alignment was way off and camera calibration didn’t fix it. I contacted support, they did some kind of remote adjustment & now it’s fantastic.

I’m so sorry your print didn’t come out beautifully. I’d like to have you try a few troubleshooting steps:

  1. Turn off your Glowforge.
  2. Check for small pieces of debris or dust.
  • Check the lower door to make sure it closes all the way. It may require some force to open, but open it, wipe any dust off the edges, and close it all the way.
  • Remove the tray and clean any dust or debris from the surface underneath. Pay careful attention to remove all debris from the four dimples where the tray rests.
  • Check the lid to make sure it closes all the way. Small particles of material, such as dust or debris, can prevent it from closing completely.
  1. Check the surface your Glowforge is on to make sure it’s flat. Ensure it is not twisted slightly and that there is no debris propping up one side of the machine.
  2. Turn your Glowforge back on.
  3. We included an extra piece of Proofgrade Draftboard with your materials shipment for troubleshooting. Place the Proofgrade Draftboard in the center of the bed and print the Gift of Good Measure using the default settings.
  4. When the print finishes, leave the lid closed and wait until the fans stop and the picture updates. Without moving your artwork or your material, take a screenshot of the Workspace to show us the difference between the artwork placement and the actual print placement. Make sure to include the rulers in your screenshot and show as much of the bed as possible.
  • Mac: Press Shift-Command-4 and click and drag a box around your image. You’ll find the screenshot file saved on your desktop.
  • Windows: Click on the Start Menu and type “snipping tool”. Open the Snipping Tool > New then click and drag a box around your image. Click the Save icon and name and save your file.
  1. Send the screenshot along with the date and time of the print, and we’ll investigate.

Waiting for a clamp to arrive so I can hook machine back up.

Followed all directions. It did not print properly again and it cut off part of the frame.

I’m sorry to hear that the frame print didn’t go well. I extracted the logs from your unit, and it looks like you were able to run the Camera Recalibrator after your last post. Did your alignment improve? If not, would you please perform the following test:

After leveling, cleaning, and recalibrating it is all good! Thanks!
