Accurate engrave on items without crumb tray

I have a few projects I am attempting. Due to the thickness of the wood, it cannot place it on the crumb tray. Taking the crumb tray out as the manual states, leaves the image in the wrong place or the wrong size. Any suggestions?

I use This which makes it easy to get within focus range.
