We have built a good vent system with a tube from our glowforge to a cutout insert in our window into the alley. However it produces a fair amount of smoke and smell into the alley and we do not want to offend our neighbors. We are using veg tanned leather in our

Is there a way to attach of build an additional filter to cut down on smoke production and smell?

a lot of people have had good luck with carbon filters - you can really solve the issue by extending the vent to the top of the house / building / etc with a roof cap

Carbon filter will work until it becomes saturated, but extending the run to the roof will be very effective indefinitely.
