Adjustment for Kerf

I assume this has been covered and somehow overlooked it.
if we need very precise measurements for a piece we are cutting, will we need to adjust our vector path in our design program of choice? I imagine the width of the kerf will vary by material, so is there no way to automate this?

Yes, the software will be able to adjust in several ways. Part of it will be a design issue in the cut file. Part of it will be in the power and speed settings. Type and thickness of the material will make a difference. Seems to be a common assumption that if you are using your own materials, you’ll have to do some trial runs. With Glowforge materials and Glowforge designs, it will be built in for optimal fit.
