Air Assist "mod" to our Glowforge

Only pros have any slots.

As do Auras…. and I think Sparks. (I have both, but just can’t remember)

Ok true. The aura has slots for sure. But this isn’t a mod for those machines and given how weak their movement systems are they really aren’t a candidate for this.

Do you have the link to this guy? Maybe my front facing mod + the magnet bracket could work.

Also just a heads up guys, I was never able to get the focus feature to work while my mod was attached because it use triangulation and my mod gets in the way. So that’s one thing to keep in mind. You might be able to do the focus and then attach the mod, but that’s a little risky imo. I don’t like moving the laser head while it’s on.

That autofocus caveat is a huge deal. Dealbreaker really.

Why do you say that? The initial autofocus works and so does the one before making the cut. It’s only when you try the extra focus button in the top right corner

Because that step, no matter when it’s done, sets the laser focus point. Without it you have to manually enter focus height for any operation as part of your settings.

This wouldn’t work for me.

Okay that’s interesting! So I had some ideas on how to get around this. I’ll get back to you guys

I have no slots at all. I will need to cut the metal or use the front gate with the magnet hack mentioned.

It’s probably theoretically possible to come in through the intake on the bottom. You might need to get very clever with a spacer to raise the intake fan, a shroud with a side port that you can snake an air assist hose through.

It’s not as simple as drilling a hole but it’s totally reversible without resorting to the risk of operating with an open front door.

I say “probably” because I’ve never tried it and can’t say how much vertical space you have for raising the intake fan.

In fact I’m not even 100% sure that non-pro units have an intake fan.

It’s also possible to do this on the back through the exhaust but it’s a bit trickier and I wouldn’t want to mess with the integrity of my exhaust setup by punching a hole through the exhaust hose to sneak the assist line in.

Also also you may not be able to move the exhaust fan back in a pro because of the cooler. The intake is what I’d try probably.

Please send me the front facing version so I don’t have to cut metal, as I don’t really have the tools for that. Also, my son, who is printing it for me, has these questions: Ask him for the 3D print parameters please, such as which side touches the print bed, infill %, and number of walls.

I also need the link to the magnet bracket for the front instead I may have it saved somewhere but can’t locate it.

I found the link for the front passthrough mod. I just need the file for the air assist with front connection and the print specifications. Thanks so much!

Can you share the link for the front mod in case anyone else wants it?

Here it is: Upgrade to pro, cost, slot mod - #51 by subatomic

Yes, please share the front facing design. I saw one in this thread, but it is not in a format my son can open. Do you have an STL file?
