Orientation for speed takes a little logical thinking. Generally orienting the engraves horizontally will be faster because you will have fewer back and forth lines and less time spent starting and stopping each of those lines. But I have a use case where orienting a tall item vertically and breaking the image up saved me many hours for multiple items. Kind of depends whether there is a lot of dead space in the image and which direction will minimize that.
