Thanks everyone for your kind comments. I will post more as they develop.

Thanks @matt22 for the inspiration! You’ve sent me down a rabbit hole, and I’ve now been working on a couple of these myself… I’ll post my results after I get something that is more-than-a-prototype tested and assembled
Posted this a few weeks ago, my own attempt at a layered bowl and the process of creating it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsDxMTqh31s
Have a couple more blanks cut in walnut and cherry, to make some alternating colored versions. The original in the video there has been holding fruit on the counter for a good two months now, and its been holding up great!
Thanks @matt22 for the inspiration! (and being cool with me using a couple photos in the video)
Nice video! and your bowl turned out very lovely as well. I appreciate the honorable mention too.

Thank you sir, much appreciated!
Here is the latest bowl, with two compartments. I think this may be my nicest yet. A gift for my daughter’s 30th I want to try one with three compartments next.
Beautiful!
Wow, that looks spectacular!
That’s mesmerising!
That’s great for entertaining in addition to decor. My wife would fill it with different snacks (wth a cloth lining the bowl sections) that compliment each other.
I always make foamcore prototypes first to se if I like the shape, and check for structural integrity and ease of assembly. It is interesting to note the profound difference in aesthetics if each layer is rotated clockwise or counter-clockwise. In this case, layers were rotated 4.5 degrees.

Thanks for giving insight into your making. These are beautiful bowls!
Material for the prototypes–is that the standard so-called ‘artists foam core’ panels, or did you use a different thickness? Does the thickness of the prototype differ from the final material, or does it matter?
I learn so much from this community!
The material is plain old foamcore as you suggest. It is a little thinner than 1/4”, which is the thickness of the wood
