Any idea what these are made out of?

My husband is on a job and is replacing a bunch of these light diffuser panels. He just asked if I wanted them. I started digging around Google trying to figure out what material they are, but he’s waiting for a call back, and thought I’d get better results if I came here and asked as well.
I know this forum is full of such a variety of backgrounds and knowledge!

Thanks!

Edit to add - I’m wondering if they’re laser safe…and I know, never put anything in your machine if you aren’t 100% sure…I don’t. Not worth the risk to me.

Just eyeballing, I’d say polycarbonate. Does acetone dissolve it?

I agree, Almost certainly polycarbonate, and if so, the laser won’t touch it.

Thanks guys. I don’t know if acetone will dissolve it because my husband is still at work.
I told him to let them go in the dumpster, but he convinced me to keep a couple “just in case”. He’s as bad as I am! Hahaha!

I “scored” two sheets of polycarbonate that I thought was acrylic early on. I gave up after too much testing.

That said, these may work. Research the flame test to make sure they don’t have chloride, then go ahead and test them.

Prismatic diffuser panels are typically acrylic. To be sure and safe tho I’d suggest doing a burn test.

My guess is that different brands used different materials. If acrylic they would be cast acrylic. In any case under some circumstances I would consider them a great start on a greenhouse or cold frame to start garden plants earlier in the spring.

They are not polycarbonate - too brittle and would turn yellow in a year. Most likely acrylic. I have cut them in the past without issues.
