Does anyone know if it’s safe to etch Bakelite? My brother has asked if I’d etch his Jeep’s gear shift knob. Thank you!

You’d have to look up the ‘ingredients’ in it to know if it’s safe.

According to this it contains chlorine, so it’s a no go in a laser, but according to this that’s not an ingredient…sadly the frustration of new materials!
You may be able to engrave a template and then use acid/sand/rotary tool to cut a design in if you don’t want to risk it!
