Bambu Lab R1 laser cutter gets full release - DEVELOP3D Bambu Lab R1 laser cutter gets full release - DEVELOP3D
Interesting. Just under 12ā by just under 24ā working area. Claims to cut roughly 3/4ā material. Odd limitation of about 9ā 10ā for passthrough ops, I once cut a 50ā piece with the Glowforge pro.
Also I wonder why they specced out mechanical drift accuracy. Interesting.
The pricing is pretty aggressive, $2500 for a 55 watt desktop laser with passthrough and the host of sensors they are talking about? Makes you wonder about the Glowforge pricing model⦠the Pro HD costs more than triple that ($8,000), and itās less powerful with a smaller workspace. We donāt have the full specs of course, but itās hard to imagine why the Pro is worth that much more to a new buyer, let alone the $7,000 Plus HD model.
while an optional Conveyor accessory allows the R1 to take stock up to 3,000mm long
thatās 118" with the conveyor.
Are you thinking that without the conveyor the limit might be larger? I wasnāt sure based on what I read. I mean 9ā 10" is still plenty long, I only did that 50 foot thing as part of a contest here on the forum, I think the next longest thing I did was about 48", probably for a claymore blade.
50-foot project here:
i donāt want to overspeculate on limited information (and, of course, i donāt have a pro to compare features). i would have to think that if they can do 118" on the conveyor, they should be able to put a piece that big through w/o the conveyor in at least some sort of manual mode. the question is whether the conveyor is integral to the automated process for longer lengths, and that i just donāt know.
Dangit, I was just about to switch to RF tubes, haha.
I do wonder if perhaps the conveyor length restriction isnāt largely a matter of physics (material flex over long distances etc.) that a person could work around with sufficient infeed/outfeed support.
I also noticed some reviewers/previewers get a bit grumpy that the cameras donāt support live viewing of work in progress, which actually seems to me to be perfectly reasonable in that it tends to force a person to remain in the vicinity of the machine while itās working. Not sure Iād want it to be too easy for folks to walk away?
If they do end up supporting Lightburn it might make life hard for xtool and GF.
weāre just caught w/o enough information to speculate w/any accuracy. you could 100% physically support the longer material in a different way without any bamboo external hardware.
but would it be able to do the automated feeding w/o it? ĀÆ\_(ć)_/ĀÆ
Itās always struck me as a little bit of misconception that this would be good. In the glowforge, the lid camera would give you a great live view⦠of the gantry.
Now itās possible (likely) that the gantry in the Bambu machine is significantly less bulky (most machines donāt mount the tube on the gantry, for good reasons) but unless theyāve done something really revolutionary the gantry will block the view a lot of the time.
If you want a live view your best option is and is likely to remain a third party camera that you can angle in such a way to see the work surface. There are some discussions here on the forum about that.
Xtool fooled around with automatic fire detection, not sure if that ever went into wide release.
Looking at the BL site there are some impressive features.
Flame detection and Auto Fire Suppression are on this unit according to their site.

Itās the same price as I paid for a Basic way back when. That was a good deal too.
8000! I had forgotten this. That stings a little. Plus subscriptions⦠not sure it matters if they support lightburn. XToolS work quite well without it.
Iām sure it will be controversial, but I think this is the beginning of the end of Glowforge. Bambu excels at making the complex consumer friendly. It directly solves some of the frustrations that led me to sell my GF, most especially accurate, repeatable alignment. It has a better price, more power, interesting add-ons, and, I am quite confident, software that will be much better than GF. And no subscription model.
Norm does a pretty good initial review. Iām interested to know what their print and cut or snap marks equivalent is. Iām curious to see how much extra space the riser gives you in depth and how big of objects you can use on the Rotary. I donāt think I would ever use the conveyor. I do like that you can use the camera in the actual print head to get a better alignment followed but personally do not like using the overhead camera when lid is open. I have that on my mira 9 and have never used it because itās not convenient. I also like that it can accommodate 12 by 24 in Sheets which is what Glowforge should have done from the beginning instead of 12 by 20.
I donāt think so. Lots of BL users here, and xTool. This has a lot of features that have gone into the GF hopper over the years.
On their website they showed tracing a car off a busy page to put on something. I donāt think it will be a problem. I donāt know what the laser side of Bambu Studio looks like though. It still feels funny to mess-up a 3D printer with laser ick.
Iām pretty intrigued by this laser.
i donāt disagree at all. this price point kicks GFās butt. if it came in at 2x the price, it would still be cheaper with more features.
i need a bigger bed than this, tho. I need at least 15" on the height, so this canāt work for me. xtool P3 is still probably the best next step.
Opinion but: this is vaporware. There is no hopper. Nobody is keeping track of all the ideas we submitted and I suspect they really never were.
Agree. GF has been on life support since the beginning. I gave up on them when it took more than a year to add a ruler to the āappā.
Yeah, I was saying it half in jest. Dan might have a napkin somewhere with something on it.
For the BL laser it is good that they put an e-stop, but they put it in the wrong place.
Err, this may be mildly offtopic in which case please feel free to delete but ā¦
ā¦Anyone considering the P3 should at least look at the Haotian HT-460. RF tube, for one thing, with a 400 by 600 mm bed, includes a free rotary.
Back up to 7k.
P3 is cheaper and more powerful. The 460 is interesting though.
ā¦are you looking at the 60W version? The 40W is $4500. Or, it is in my cart, anyway? Of course, itās always possible they love me more than most, but it seems mildly unlikely given my general demeanorā¦
