I have a bible from 'Barnes and Noble that says it is “Leathersoft” cover. I can’t find anything that says if it has any vinyl content or not. Can I assume that “Leathersoft” is safe for my Glowforge based on what you did here? https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/niv-life-application-study-bible-third-edition-leathersoft-gray-pink-red-letter-zondervan/1139982194

I am not sure you can assume anything: From Google -
What does LeatherSoft Bible mean?

Bonded leather is a material made from scrap leather pieces that are pulverized and combined with a binding agent. Leathersoft is a term used by some manufacturers to describe **a leather-like material that is made from a mixture of leather and synthetic materials

@shop7 welcome to the forum and congratulations on asking questions to prevent accidents.

in my experience as @dklgood pointed out, leathersoft is a cheap covering made of binded real leather scraps to form only the substrate, but the top finish is a thin PVC film that simulates the leather grain, which in time will usually peel off the substrate. PVC when burned releases chlorine gas which is toxic for life, and highly corrosive for metal parts and electronics in your machine.
If I were you I would resist the temptation and stay away from trying to engrave or cut this material.
