I engraved this onto a bandanna which looks really neat, however it led to a weakening of the fabric which is fragile in the engraved area. Still fun.
Then I moved onto a t-shirt that no-longer fits me, and it is faint, but I still like it.
I need to pick up some of the heat transfer paper, I just wanted to play with zapping some fabric.

Apparently this stuff is really good, I know @shogun has been playing with it lately and saw a pic, it turned out very nicely.
I got the idea from a person’s Amazon review for the Jacquard deColourant product. They posted a single photo which showed a piece of fabric (a t-shirt?) that they had turned into a photo realistic image. They didn’t include any power settings or mention what kind of laser engraving tool they had. I can only assume that they coated the tshirt in deColourant, let it dry and then put the fabric in their laser engraver. The only indication they gave to speed/power was full speed and lowest power.

This was my first experiment with deColourant. It’s pretty easy to use and doesn’t seem to damage the fabric at all. The blogpost in the article @evansd2 linked to has the settings.

Thank you @evansd2 and @shogun I just ordered a container of it.
In the past I played with screenprinting and was contemplating if there was a way to make the screens with the laser, but this looks like a sustainable process

Wow that looks cool. I wonder what they are using on the screens as a coating. It looks like a metal screen from the video. This might be fun to do with the

Yes, it’s a steel mesh screen with some ablative coating.

If you didn’t see it in that thread, my experience with the dye discharge paste, including a short demo video, are here:

I decided to give this a try. In the spirit of the season, I used a photo I took in the catacombs under Paris.
Shockingly enough, despite years of Glowforging, this was my first photo engrave. The original image is pretty contrasty already but, I riffed off of JB Manning’s photo preparation tutorial to optimize it.
A test engrave on card stock looked good.

For the first attempt, I treated a rough rectangle with the dye removal paste and, let it…
