right, but it seemed like a lot more work to use than the liquid style. Really i just paint it on, and it sort of smooths out evenly wherever I put it. Kinda cool. It did coalesce a bit in the corner joint at the bottom and on the edges. Also I tried to use a plastic infant medicine syringe to ‘caulk’ the edges, but that was really just too much and difficult to apply carefully in the tight space.A bit messy, but controllable and effective. We’ll see how it actually holds up over time and actual use now…
Did you paint over the acrylic? Just curious on how clear it really is.
Wow! Those are beautiful. I love the end result, especially the visible rocks and soil.
The designs remind me of those test questions where you pick which shape comes next in a sequence of shapes.
These are very cool! Thanks for sharing. I love that you made the base out of acrylic so we can see what’s happening under the dirt.
Wow, just phenomenal! Thanks so much for your detailed walk through of design, challenges, and solutions. The end result is so simple and elegant, but you’ve really illustrated the complexity that goes in to making something that looks simple.
Beautiful design, and from the replies, it would seem quite catalog-worthy. I’d buy it
These are just awesome!! Nicely done

super cool
Very, VERY nice project! I could see myself making some of these as my wife also likes a bit of succulents (harder for her to kill)
Are the two wood “v” pieces just glued into the finger joints on the backer board?!
Damn! 99 likes, who will be the 100th?
This is probably one of my favorite things I’ve seen made on a Glowforge!
Nope. Just on the inner wood sides of the ‘V’ and the grooves that are engraved. The 2 acrylic pieces sit in the spots and are sealed by their edges touching the wood. It dries pretty clear on the thin layer I covered. A bit cloudier where it thickens up, but not tinted in any way.
No glue used, but it probably wouldn’t hurt. They stick in pretty good with the tabs and slot, and the addition of the sealant I used kind of acts as an adhesive slightly.
These are really cool. You could totally sell these. Amazing!
Slowly collecting a ton of stuff for GF projects. My Flex Liquid has arrived, and several varieties of Rustoleum Never Wet on the way.
OMG WOW!!! That (you) are Amazing!!!
By the time I get my GF, I will be able to waterproof or glue any material known to man, except maybe water or air. My big work up now needs to be more focus on design so I do not have to rely so much on drag and drop art (public domain or licensed), or photographs (mine). I already know I have more ideas than material or time, but I never thought of this project here. (And my walls are so bare.) I might go for the cat shelf thing, too, if they hang right for my apartment guidelines. I know my two beasties would love more perches…especially Boo. My baby panther loves lounging high up.
I’ve used the rustolium. It peeled away from what I sprayed it on. Hope you have better luck with it.
I have multiple versions for multiple materials. I’m hoping that if I select right type for material that it won’t let me down.
These are beautiful!!! Can’t wait to create some when I get my hands on mine!! Weeeeeeeee~~~~
Hey @Ryan.M, I just got my glowforge and remembered this project of yours. I used one of the reference photos and challenged myself to reverse engineer it. This is what I came up with - thanks for the inspiration, my girlfriend loves it!
