Biscoff Management System

As I have gotten so efficient in making backlit instrument panels for the A320 Sim-Pit and the whole sim is nearing a fairly complete state, it is time to add the fun panels. I was talking with my son the other day after he had just been operating, normally he flies under the United airlines livery but that day had been flying under Delta’s Livery which means Biscoff Sandwich cookies, which are his favorite. We joked that they are on the MEL (Minimum Equipment List, the legal minimum equipment a plane may dispatch with), which led to the rabbit hole of the BMS Panel (Biscoff Management Panel) which will replace one of the cockpit lighting control panels on the Main Instrument Panel. It is controlled via an Adafruit Feather with a 7-segment LED Backpack (hasn’t shipped hence the fake LED display). The button is an aerospace grade pushbutton (helpfully anodized) which I 3D printed a custom holder to allow it to be engraved without the crumb tray. When the dispenser dispenses, it also plays the Biscoff Theme and the Y’all ready for this from Space Jam. I haven’t installed it in the Main Instrument Panel so this is just held up to a lamp. Now if I can (this is more of a learning experience in programming via the API into MSFS) I’d love to throw an ECAM warning when the cookie level gets low in the dispenser… Even funnier would be to send an ACARS message from the plane to dispatch to request emergency replenishment.

I love this bit of whimsy so PLEASE tell me that it will actually put a Biscoff in front of you.

Awesome. Do they make these for Tacos too?

Yes! The dispenser from The Practical Engineer actually dispenses the cookies. I am just adding some sensors and a servo to link it to the sim.

I love it! Absolutely on the MEL.

Love Biscoffs! For a long time before they were available in stores I’d only fly Delta so I’d get my cookies :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Who knew they had a theme song? :man_shrugging::exploding_head:

For future reference the diameter of a biscoff sandwich cookie is 43.2mm.

Weirdly the alternate language on my package (bought here in MA) is arabic while they were made in Belgium…

I would have expected that to be more of range and less specific. Are they really all that consistent?

Well I imagine my p value is terrible with a n=12, but so far within fractions of a mm! Doesn’t give a home baked feel for all I know they lathe them down but given how tight the packaging is, I understand why they hold a tight tolerance

Startup sequence, need to add the button and microswitch from the dispenser, also needs a rotary encoder to set the number of biscoffs in the hopper tube (you know in case they swell with altitude?). And yes, before someone mentions is I will be putting the filter over the LEDs to make them legible in light, but this is not the final panel anyway (this is Boeing gray not airbus RAL 5014 gray-blue) but I have learned, don’t even think of working on the final panel before wiring/programming is done or you will regret not having a screw hole or something…
