Bluetooth Calipers

I was trying to figure out a good way to add ESP-32 to my calipers to send data to my computer. I checked to see if anyone else had tried and discovered a simpler solution. Has anyone tried something like these?

I haven’t seen bluetooth calipers. How cool! I might just be able to read the display on my computer without glasses!

There was also this awhile back:

I have some older ones with a wireless USB interface. I can’t say I’ve really used it more than once or twice, it’s kind of a novelty. Much like this Bluetooth one, all it does is type the number as if it were a keyboard. So you can easily create a text file or spreadsheet full of unlabeled measurements, if that’s your jam.

I was looking to solve a couple of issues.

  • Something easier to read in low light.
  • After I take a measurement sometimes I move it and mess up the reading.
  • An excuse to get a new gadget.

You never need an excuse to get a new gadget. It is important to support gadget makers everywhere whenever we can.

As much as a gadget man I am (poet and don’t know it!) I’ve seen these and never pulled the trigger. When dimensioning a part I just type the numbers into my laptop. That said, it’s a cool idea, but I don’t personally have a use for it.

On the rare occasions when I have wanted to collect multiple caliper readings on a computer like that, I have used voice input with Numbers (Apple’s spreadsheet app) on an iPad.
