Bowl Gauge for Turning Bowls

When we were in Hawaii, I used to turn pens out of…wait for it…koa. It makes the most beautiful pens and turning pens is almost a zen experience. Just you and the lathe. A lot like riding a motorcycle.

Is that tricky to do on a medium sized lathe? I mostly do small bowls so far…

Not really, as long as you can bring the tail stock close enuf to hold the mandrel, abou 10-12”.

Great idea to make your own calipers for your bowls. I’ve never tried turning, but, love the look of the bowls and pens I’ve seen.

I’m working on a more refined design… so far I’m not thrilled with the handle designs I’ve come up with, but I’ll post something when I’m happier.
