i did a deep engrave, then touched the cat with black spray paint before removing the paper mask (this is 1/4 inch mdf), then i painted the eyes and whisker details by hand

This is quite true, although one of my balls of furry wonderfulness just opened up my hand while I was petting her. (Tried to stop too soon to suit her.)

Scary as that kitty looks, it’s actually in happy relaxed mode. Even though someone did a number on his whiskers. (His pupils are small. When they get large, you’d better put the kitty down carefully and back away slowly. You’re about to be attacked.)
