Can you engrave on found river rocks/pebbles?

Hey guys,
I’m a new Glowforge user and found a bunch of river rocks/pebbles in nature that I would love to engrave on. Is this possible/safe? What settings would be recommended?
Thanks c:

There’s a search function at the top of every page. As stated, lots of existing discussion on engraving stone.

Generally speaking the darker (for contrast) and more homogeneous (for consistency) the mineral the better the result.

That being said, you are wise to be cautious and ask until you have more experience.

Now you got me wanting to try that. Have a piece of coal right here. It is WV after all.

Oh, maybe I won’t. Too much trouble to remove the crumb tray and grab the fire extinguisher.
