Does anybody know how to clean the Glowforge air filter.

Remove cartridge.
Throw in trash.
Insert new one.
It’s in the owners manual.

How often should this be done, that is expensive

When the cartridge is full, the filter will beep. If you continue using it, you’ll see smoke building up and coming out of the Glowforge instead of getting sucked into the filter. So, you’ll know it’s full.
It can fill up in as little as 10 hours if you cut draftboard. Glowforge has estimates for how long it’ll last when cutting other materials here:
