I’ve been cutting for at least the last few months with the cutting head lens in upside down.
Sudden appearance of wide burn on the masking paper didn’t give me the clue that something was wrong, nor that I needed to keep on increasing the power to cope with both GF materials and others, whose settings had built up a long list in my cutting list.
Only spotted the problem when looking for comments on possibility of cutting hdpe, and saw the “bowl upwards” reply in a couple of threads.
Must be getting old!
My favorite emoji seems more appropriate than ever.
Useful tip for the newcomer - before you pull the lens off the tool the first time you use it, look closely to see if there’s an arrow engraved on the side pointing up. If not, put one on there with a sharpie. Also, even if there IS an arrow, I suggest writing UP next to it - because an arrow by itself might have you thinking that’s the direction the beam shines thru.. I mean, it might. Perhaps somebody.. one time.. well, who knows..
Just a side comment/issue, SWMBO says that she never discovered that there were price concessions for over 55’s in some retail outlets until she was told, when she was 75 !
It doesn’t pay to be coy about your age, but I confess I was both surprised and delighted to be offered a seat in a crowded tube train(metro) but a young lady.
Of course I refused gracefully. What was a ‘young’ gentleman supposed to do !
When I first came over to the States, she asked me how old I felt. Suggesting 54, she said “You can’t be. My youngest son is older than that.”
i do take advantage, but i don’t see a lot of “55+” stuff around here (other than my t-mobile account). at 62, i’m expecting that next wave of discounts in 3 years. i see a lot more “65” discounts.
The are senior prices every where in Japan. They are substantial too. They often have elementary and junior high prices, and the senior prices are right along those. I bet you can get into a ton of theme parks and museums for really cheap.
I just checked, senior discounts here start at 60 years old, but alot of places of you are 70 or older, you can get in for free or a couple hundred yen (like 1.25ish usd). Depends on the business of course, but for gardens, temples, museums, etc, it’s cheap.
Careful with that one. Their automated AI damage assessment system can easily swamp that savings. In some cases dirt smudges get flagged as dents/scrapes but getting it washed before drop-off can cause issues from reflections.
I flat out ask if there’s a senior or veteran discount. Most successful at museums and local businesses. Almost 100% percent success rate with any sort of home contractor, exterminator, electrician, plumber (unless part of a larger company).
Apparently I look older than I am, as my barber has been giving me the 65+ price for over two years. She never asked my age — just assumed, so I never felt a need to volunteer my actual age.
