The HVAC filters I’m familiar with don’t look like this. Can you provide a source or a photo of what it looks like before assembly? Thanks for sharing your design!
Are you missing another 0 after the decimal point? I didn’t think they sold inch thick plastic sheet. Probably 0.093" right?
Super design for all those who are seeing challenged.
Probably (hopefully?) mm … even .093" would be pretty darned thick.
Thanks…I think?! It may be the 3 beers I just drank in 20 mins. Lol
mea culpa. i was typing one handed and eating dinner with the other hand. while my plate was resting on my laptop.
if you can find either the 2200 or 2800 they’re an order of magnitude better (smaller particle size) for and are HEPA-sized rated although not medically certified - 99.97% of 0.3micron particles like viruses.
The 1500s will take care of viruses attached to droplets though.
Yeah, I had to with what I could find. I would definitely advise the higher numbers. In San Diego we don’t use them much. Lol
Oh…I see. Thanks!
No problem! You can get a lot of masks out of 1 filter.
since its easier to cut I think
Thank you for sharing this.
Wow, great idea and share, Victor!
When using furnace or other filters, check the SDS just like for lasering. 3M Filtrete are paper but many others are composed of glass fibers. You probably don’t want to inhale those and since you’re going to have to cut them up you’re going to be breaking up & releasing those fibers.
Good point, it always comes back to the MSDS, don’t it ?!
Nice job!
Thank you!
One of the recommendations when using ANY non-fabric materials is to line the filter on both sides with a cotton fabric. This is to keep you from inhaling stray fibers. I would be careful about any products that have chemicals or scents embedded in them. Using a scented Swiffer around the house to dust may be perfectly safe, but you’ll get a pretty hefty dose of the fragrances and any other chemicals into your lungs if you use them as mask filters. Always remember that the safety of any chemical is a function of how much you are being exposed to and the route of exposure.
