Nice! Walnut overlaid on the bamboo? Good choice!
This is a bamboo cutting board that is a little over 2 feet wide. The lettering was left proud as this will be used as a hanging sign. The lettering is made from 1/8" zebra wood. I used my Glowforge pro to cut the lettering, and then i used my Shaper Origin to cut the beds for the inlays. It is super convenient that both tools use the same file, so once you have a good .svg file, you do not need to do anything else in terms of file preparation/conversion.
Zebra wood is notoriously difficult to get clean cuts through. After many attempts and fails, I abandoned my goal of 1/4" thick lettering and settled on 1/8". The laser just does not want to cut through the dark bands in the grain. I noticed that I have the same difficulties with trying to cut ebony.
Settings: full power, speed 175, auto focus enabled, 2 passes
