Dice Baseball!

My family is kind of a sucker for nicely-built tabletop games. I built this one using the trusty Glowforge, some magnets and a little mobile app — dice-based baseball for a rainy day! As usual, some things went well and others not so much; check out all the gory details on my blog. Diceball, a Glowforge++ Project – Shutdown Hook

Fun.

Didn’t read the blog yet. Did you make the mobile app also?

I did! Code is on github if it’d be useful to anyone: https://github.com/seanno/shutdownhook/tree/diceball.1/diceball

That is a very nice project! Great idea! How hard was making the app, assuming very little code experience?

Thank you! The code was pretty straightforward, but coding was my job until recently, so there’s definitely some learning curve. The “React” framework is pretty good for these apps and there are great tutorials, so that’s probably where I’d start. If you do jump into something and have questions about coding stuff, I’m happy to help if I can!

Very cool. I first thought the phone was The Big Green Wall (and then I saw the Mariners logo and the mention of the phone and my heart sank :stuck_out_tongue: ). It would be a great gift for a diehard fan to make one for their favorite team and not so hard to change the diceball code to be green

Definitely should do a version with the Green Monster! Raised my kids in Seattle and that slowly changed my loyalties…

I love this! These would be amazing gifts for baseball fans! Customized to their favorite teams, of course!
