Did a HQ Score of a lightsaber for some art over a wall blemish

Received some free laser-proof (resists cutting very well) plywood/fiberboard so I decided to see how it etches.

Really liking the contrast from the masking tape I did not take off. I have rolls of fancy color masking tape I will try using next time.

Great result!

Another option is that you can set up the job and mask the wood. Then lightly cut the outline of the saber. Peel it and then paint the inside with a light color (or even glow in the dark). Then engrave as usual.

You’ll end up with a high contrast via paint which should be more durable than the tape.

There were times when i enjoyed the contrast too, so i sprayed a couple layers of matte sealant on it to make sure it stayed in place.

As I often use WBPU to seal wood, I have just brushed that over masking as well. It’s not a vivid as painting, but as engraved wood is somewhat “antique”-y anyway, it looks just fine.
