Different power needed on different days?

I bought some comic book backer board to make some cards for tablet weaving.
This is an image of my 35 year old cards and weaving setup so you can see what I am talking about. I designed the pink shuttle and made it on my forge

The first day I made a bunch of octagon shaped tablets and found that the best settings to be 500/85/1 for the holes and 500/84/1 for the edges of the cards. It didn’t singe and cut through but left everything together enough to not blow around.

A few days later I set out to cut some square cards of a similar size and the same settings singed quite a bit. I finally found that I needed 500/76/1.

What could the difference be? I vent directly outside about 2 feet away. Could the outside temperature or wind speed be the change?

Thanks for your thoughts!

I don’t think the outside weather changes matter to the machine. The airflow is from the inside of the machine to the outside, so it makes no difference if the outside air is 70 degrees or 30 degrees. Environmental changes inside of your workroom could affect your material, however, if there are humidity changes or temperature changes. My guess is that material variability and the condition of your optics would affect your cuts more than the outside weather conditions.

Did you happen to clean the lens/windows in between? More power gets through clean glass!

I didn’t clean anything, but that is a good point!

What @dklgood said about material variability.

Cardstock can vary quite a lot from sheet to sheet. It’s possible that your two jobs were affected.
