Discussion of the August 2017 update

Every country but the one you are indigenous to is perceived as more dangerous.
I sometimes think this of Australia but then realize that if if was that bad no one would live there.

Welcome!! Sad to hear of your diagnosis.

I know the delays have been hard for everyone … but know that we all want a quality end product. That is what my husband & I think about when we’ve discussed the prior delays. “We haven’t any laser experience … so, it’s better that the product is right”. “Slow to ship the units … well, they really need to make sure they get the packaging up to snuff”.

After two years … we’re still dreaming, and actually starting to get some projects ready … because the wait is almost over.

@Myth, thanks so much for posting! If you ordered a Pro during the first day, and are located in the US, you shouldn’t have too long to wait.

We appreciate the faith and funds you entrusted us with, and will do everything we can to not let you, and everyone else who believes in us, down.

I certainly hope what you are saying is true having ordered a Pro at 10:34am on the first day.

I suppose I’ll just sit over here in the corner and sob. I’m much later than day one.

Oh I will.

We are doing a big push this weekend to prepare the space for it.

For the past two years they’ve been advertising “Passthrough software uses the camera to maintain alignment as long material is pushed through” as a feature included in the Pro price.

I can’t imagine them actually getting it working without using a mechanical guide system or something like Origin Shaper’s “ShaperTap” to orient the camera.

They should refund the price of features they can’t deliver. In California it’s illegal to sell people a product with advertised features that don’t actually exist.

Does that law have a caveat for beta software? From what I understand the glowforge software is still in beta. I wonder if that would make all beta, pre release and early access games illegal in California

Oh you have the option for getting all of your money back if you don’t want the unit. No one is going to hold a gun to your head and force you to take something that was advertised one way and delivered another.

Or you can opt to wait until it’s ready.

Your choice, both times.

Beta software isn’t sold, people are allowed to use it for free, generally in exchange for helping to evaluate the product. The Glowforge tech specs, FAQ, or Terms of Service have never mentioned that features don’t actually exist, that they are “beta”, or that they may change prior to delivery. I’m sure they’ll get it sorted out though…

Well I’ve given them a nearly $4000 loan for two years with 0% interest, so I might as well wait for my laser

Probably a good decision.

Although… I have to admit the K40 is looking better and better everyday .

I don’t have the space for the K40, among other things.

And once those features are available, does Glowforge prevent those GF :glowforge: units, which were refunded, from every getting those features?

Should Glowforge then not deliver any GF :glowforge: units to California?

It is odd (without a context) as to the direction that your statements are leading to.

The question I have is what is it that you are wanting?

The photos of some of the K40’s on fire are also a little concerning to me.

Go ahead & get one, especially if you’re overseas. Then you’ve got until your email comes to decide if it’s good enough. There are lots available used too. (Mine likely will go on the block after the Gerbil Kicksarter as 3 lasers are 1 too many  ).

That would indeed be a concern for me.

I’ll have to remember to put that in my ad when I sell it - “never been on fire” Most are in the same position though. The fires get attention like GF DOAs because they’re uncommon events.
