Doorstop For College

My friend asked for a doorstop for his son who just went off to college.

I started with a piece of monkey pod wood and chopped it with the chopsaw.

Lots of varnish and a leather cut out:

The image engrave centering on the top didnʻt align despite focusing.
The height of the doorstop was was shy of 2 inches.
So I added that line score. Which was a pain to align with lots of trial and error.

It seems that I’m not really hitting the alignment that I should be these days.

I created tiny score lines to get it lined up…

This is how far off the mark it was.

Overall I am really happy with the end piece.

That turned out great! Love the leather strap on the back - makes it so much easier to move it! He’s going to be the envy of his dorm!

Oh, very cool! I’m thinking you could even do the whole job on the laser by cutting a series of long triangles and gluing them together, sanding, then adhering a laser engraved piece of veneer across the top. Would probably be strictly decorative though.

Being locked out of a dorm room can suck, but having a doorstop like this can save you from an ordeal. It’s also good to have in general for an apartment or room. I love projects that have practical use, as well as looking nice in general.
