Double-Stitching Leather (from Make:)

If you have a small scrap, how long a decorated thong or similar longish object could you cut from it for braiding or other purposes? (paging Dido…)

So I have a question. Why do you have to use two needles to saddle stitch? It seems that you could just double back and stitch the other side? Does that make sense?

You definitely need two needles. Think of it like lacing a pair of shoes – by lacing both sides at once, it keeps the tension even, which keeps the seam straight.
