I designed a Celtic art map compass with knotted dragons and Odin’s spear (Gungnir) for fantasy maps, and made relief prints using the OpenPress Project Postcard Printing Press. The printing plate was engraved in rubber on my Glowforge.
I love to see the machine used in this way – a tool for making a tool. My father was a tool maker, he used tools and machines to make the tools that make the things we often take for granted.
These little presses are pretty cool. They work for a variety of relief printing and intaglio techniques. I have been saving up panels from empty Tetrapack boxes (the stuff shelf-stable alternative milks, soup, etc. come in) as they can be used for short runs of intaglio-like prints.
What a great design! I love maps, and of course denoting North is mandatory on any good map. This takes the cake; it was fun tracing the dragons from nose to tail. You never cease to amaze.
I love how clean that stamp came out! I have not got such clean results when trying to make stamps, so i put it on the list of projects to revisit at a later date.
