Eleven years ago today I preordered my first Glowforge Basic. Who knew that besides learning new design techniques (and having a ball along the way), it would lead to a fairly successful side gig. I never planned on that - I just wanted to putter around a make some decorations.
Joining the Catalog Design program was a big turning point! A few years down the road I have 60+ designs in the Catalog and can count on a small income every month, which is pretty nice.
So, I was blown away when I opened todayās ICYMI email and discovered a silly home project was featured.
Just goes to show you that you never know where curiosity will take you in lifeā¦
I saw that email! Congratulations on being highlighted in it, and on your 11 years! You are such a vital part of this forum, not only for your designs, but also for your encouragement and help. Long may you continue!
Sorryā¦I donāt know what this means, but congratulations!
Iām at 11 years ago, as well. Itās been a wonderful time all the way. I have, I think, 82 designs in the catalog. I never in my wildest thought that Iād be learning to design stuff for a laser at age 70ā¦and now at 81 still a real love of mine. My catalog income, though very modest, is also steady every month. I think weāre being compensated for āpersistenceā, Dennis.
Congrats on 11 years! I hesitated some so mine will be next month. It has been quite a ride.
And once again you are reminding me that I need to make a second pass at so many of the things Iāve made and submit them. As it stands my few items pay for my premium and buy a soda or sandwich depending on the month.
Next month for me, as well. No designing for the catalog, just personal use and gifts from mine. It has been great fun! Not to mention reading our forum daily.
Wow, @rappee25407 , even if you missed one or two, I didnāt realize what small group of us are left. Thanx for doing the research.
In a few hours Iāll cross that 11-year mark, and I gotta say, this place has been unlike any other forum; itās been more like a second family. Over the 11 years, Iāve seen several of the first pass away, a couple springboard from GF to much bigger things, including one who started his own puzzle company, but most are just a mystery, either slowly fading or suddenly stopping posting. The good news, though, is that as the original 42 have dwindled, others have stepped up to make coming back worthwhile. I consider every one here a friend, at minimum, because we share one passion.
The Glowforge was only the second smart tool Iād bought; the first is history and an interesting story for another thread. Today I have and use 2 3D printers, 2 CNC machines, and the Glowforge. In terms of how often I hit start, the Glowforge is still the most used.
Eleven years for me too! Although I ordered early, it took me a little while to join the online chats. Iāve learned so much from this kind and generous group of folks and really appreciate the friendly nature of the forum!
Iām only half-way there, as it will be 6 years for me this coming March. But this forum has definitely become family to me. Youāll never know how much all of you mean to me.
I joined before mine arrived, but long after the campaign ended. I think I was looking for an update and did a search and a forum post popped up Best search ever!
