Elizabeth Tower 2024

Hey guys!

Here’s my latest gingerbread project (learned a few things from the comments on the log cabin thread  ). Hopefully Wikipedia is right about the correct name. I wish I had more time and motivation for details, but I think it turned out pretty well! The laser is amazing, those window cutouts on the top section are .09 in wide by .241 inches tall. The tall windows in the lower section are 1.5 tall by .122 wide. This wouldn’t have been possible without the laser, which I already knew. Hope y’all like it!

This explains how it came by that name:

This is all good information. I see now that the room for the bell on my rendition is a bit small for scale. However, I will say, there is no way I could have done the bell. This tiny version is 2 feet tall, so attempting including the actual Big Ben was just not gonna happen lol. I did try for a larger version, but it ended up being over 3 feet tall and I didn’t have anywhere to put it. Even as it is, the one thing I wish I could have done was to get the interior lights brighter at the top but I couldn’t get a gingerbread stick tall enough to reach, so it is what it is. And what it is, is done! LOL. Thanks for the added background!

It’s lovely, and nobody who sees it would know…

That’s one of my problems, to find faults in things I create because I obsess over perfection.

I learned most people don’t see them, and accept them for what they are.

It is beautiful! I don’t think any of us is ever completely satisfied with our creations, it seems we always can find something that we could do differently or better.

That turned out lovely! If you made the wreaths removable (like with magnets), you could swap them out with various holiday themes or leave it just with the clock. That way you could leave that marvelous creation up all year! (I realize the effort you put into this to change it now, but that’s the thought that popped in my head.)

Well now that you’ve said that we can’t unsee the imperfectio of improper scale :scream::joy::joy::joy::joy::clap:

Thanks for the compliments everyone! @ellencadwell it’s funny that you said that because my husband asked me to make one out of wood with a real clock in it. Which if I do, also gives me a chance to fix the imperfectio @jamesdhatch

That’s awesome! I love it when my husband asks me to make something for him on the GF. You’ll have to be sure to show us some pics when you get it done. Maybe you should submit this to the catalog? It’s such a lovely design.
